{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.903","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.903","heading":"Prohibited services by licensed athletic trainers -- Responsibilities and","body":"duties of licensed athletic trainers -- Administrative regulations -- Prohibited\nbilling.\n(1) A licensed athletic trainer:\n(a) Shall not use spinal or pelvic manipulati ons or spinal or pelvic chiropractic\nadjustments;\n(b) May assist with the appropriate management and use of, but shall not\nprescribe, over-the-counter or prescription medications commonly used in the\npractice of sports medicine, excluding any controlled su bstances, with the\nsupervision of a physician licensed under this chapter, and shall maintain\naccurate records identifying the medication, dose, amount, directions,\ncondition for which the medication is being used, identity of the supervising\nphysician, lot number, and expiration date;\n(c) Shall not provide or administer over -the-counter or prescription medications\nto a minor without express parental or guardian consent and physician\noversight;\n(d) Shall not perform invasive procedures, except for those inv asive procedures\nthat the board, based on recommendations from the council, determines to be\npermissible. Any procedures performed under this subsection shall be:\n1. Within the scope of practice for athletic trainers; and\n2. Approved by the supervising physician;\n(e) May provide athletic training services, notwithstanding any other provision of\nKRS 311.900 to 311.928, for employment injuries if the athletic training\nservices for employment injuries are provided within the scope of practice for\nathletic trainers and under the supervision of a physician licensed under this\nchapter, an occupational therapist licensed under KRS Chapter 319A, a\nphysical therapist licensed under KRS Chapter 327, or a chiropractor licensed\nunder KRS Chapter 312;\n(f) Shall not seek reimbursement from the federal government for physical\ntherapy services performed by an athletic trainer;\n(g) Shall not seek reimbursement from the federal government for occupational\ntherapy services performed by an athletic trainer;\n(h) Shall not seek re imbursement from the federal government for chiropractic\nservices performed by an athletic trainer;\n(i) Shall not prescribe medications, including controlled substances;\n(j) Shall only seek third -party reimbursement for services as permitted  under\nnational standards and within the scope of practice of athletic training and\nwhen prescribed by a physician licensed under this chapter; and\n(k) Shall not practice as an athletic trainer before completing a standardized form\nfor athletic trainers an d their supervising physicians that establishes the\nathletic trainer's authorized practice activities while under the physician's\nsupervision. This form shall be developed and provided by the board.\n(2) The board shall promulgate administrative regulations , based upon\nrecommendations from the council and in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A, to\nestablish a formulary of legend medications that a licensed athletic trainer may\nobtain, transport, provide, and administer when providing athletic training services,\nlimited to only those medications that are indicated and approved by the board.
