{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.905","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.905","heading":"Requirements to be licensed as an athletic trainer -- Exception to","body":"requirements -- Inactive status -- Automatic licensure.\n(1) To be licensed by the board as an athletic trainer, an applicant shall:\n(a) Submit a completed application form with the r equired fee on a form\nprescribed by the board;\n(b) Be of good character and reputation; and\n(c) 1. Be certified and in good standing as an athletic trainer by the National\nAthletic Trainers Association Board of Certification, Inc., or its\nsuccessor; or\n2. Be authorized to practice as an athletic trainer in another state and be in\ngood standing in that state, if that state has standards equivalent to those\nof this Commonwealth.\n(2) Any person who is issued initial licensure as an athletic trainer shall be re gistered\nfor three (3) years, or for the completion of the current three (3) year cycle. The\nperson shall then apply to the board for triennial renewal and shall submit all\ninformation requested by the board and pay a renewal fee as prescribed by the\nboard.\n(3) No person shall hold himself or herself out as an athletic trainer or perform any of\nthe activities of an athletic trainer as prescribed in KRS 311.900 to 311.928, without\nfirst obtaining a license under KRS 311.900 to 311.928.\n(4) Nothing in this section shall be construed to limit:\n(a) The activities, services, and use of title on the part of a person in the employ\nof the federal government, to the extent the person is operating within the\nspecific parameters of that employment; or\n(b) The activities or services of a student athletic trainer or someone in a similar\neducational position, if the service is not for compensation and is carried out\nunder the supervision of a physician and a licensed athletic trainer licensed\nunder KRS 311.900 to 311.928.\n(5) Upon petition to the board, licensed athletic trainers may be granted inactive status\nfor a period of time not to exceed three (3) years. Licensed athletic trainers shall not\npractice athletic training while under inactive status. Inactive athletic tra iners may\napply for an active license after paying a fee as prescribed in administrative\nregulations promulgated by the board.\n(6) Persons who are certified by the board and are in good standing as athletic trainers\non July 12, 2006, shall be automatically  licensed under KRS 311.900 to 311.928\nwithout meeting the requirements of subsection (1) of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=41867","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:07Z","sha256":"f77485d31f5222f5fd083a77a68ad4519408dcf65cd62c2000e7bbecffe85283","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.904","next":"us-ky/krs-311.906"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
