{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311a.095","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311A.095","heading":"Expiration of license and certification -- Renewal -- Lapsed license or","body":"certification -- Reinstatement -- Correspondence -- Retention of license or\ncertification.\n(1) A paramedic license, emergency medical responder certification, advanced\nemergency medical technician certification, or emergency medical technician\ncertification shall:\n(a) Be valid for a period of two (2) years upon renewal; and\n(b) Expire on December 31 of the second year from its initial issuance.\n(2) The license or certificat ion of every person issued under the provisions of this\nchapter shall be renewed at least biennially except as provided in this section. At\nleast six (6) weeks before the renewal date the office of the board shall send\nnotification correspondence for renew al to every person for whom a license or\ncertification was issued during the current licensure or certification period. The\napplicant shall complete and submit the application for renewal with the renewal fee\nprescribed by the board in an administrative re gulation before the expiration date of\nhis or her current license or certification. Upon receipt of the application and fee,\nthe board shall verify the accuracy of the application to determine whether the\nlicensee or person seeking certification has met al l the requirements as set forth in\nthis chapter and in the administrative regulations promulgated by the board, and, if\nso, shall issue to the applicant a license or certification to practice or engage in the\nactivity for the ensuing licensure or certification period. Such license or certification\nshall render the holder a legal practitioner of the practice or activity specified in the\nlicense or certification for the period stated on it. The board shall prescribe by\nadministrative regulation the beginning and ending of the licensure or certification\nperiod.\n(3) Any person who is licensed or certified by the board who allows his or her license\nor certification to lapse by failing to renew the license or certification as provided in\nthis section may be reinst ated by the board by meeting the requirements of\nadministrative regulations promulgated by the board.\n(4) Correspondence regarding renewal of a license or certification shall be sent to the\nelectronic mail address provided by the individual certified or licensed by the board.\n(5) Any person engaging in any practice or activity regulated by the board during the\ntime his or her license or certification has lapsed shall be considered an illegal\npractitioner and shall be subject to the penalties provided for vi olations of this\nchapter.\n(6) Failure to receive correspondence for renewal of a license or certification shall not\nrelieve a paramedic, emergency medical responder, advanced emergency medical\ntechnician, or emergency medical technician from the duty to re new his or her\nlicense or certification prior to December 31 of the year in which the license or\ncertification expires.\n(7) The duration of any license or certification issued by the board may be limited by\ndisciplinary action of the board.\n(8) Every license or certification issued by the board shall have the seal of the board\naffixed. A holder of a license or certification shall retain it in his or her possession\nand be prepared to exhibit it upon demand by an employer or anyone to whom the\nholder of the license or certification offers emergency medical services or any board\nor staff member of the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services.\n(9) Failure or refusal to produce a license or certification upon demand shall be prima\nfacie evidence that no such license or certification exists.","path":["KRS Chapter 311A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=48860","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:08Z","sha256":"a02572a121b2d3821ac57ac8d150460d6cc4ce788691e9126b0189241e4d5f64","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311a.090","next":"us-ky/krs-311a.100"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
