{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311a.160","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311A.160","heading":"First responders -- Permitted activities -- Reasonable control by","body":"employers -- Utilization of first responders in medical care facilities.\n(1) A first responder may, subject to the provisions of this section, perform any\nprocedure:\n(a) Specified in t he most recent curriculum of the United States Department of\nTransportation training course for first responders; and\n(b) Any additional procedure authorized by the board by administrative\nregulation.\n(2) When there is a change in the United States Departm ent of Transportation\ncurriculum for first responders or the board approves an additional skill or\nprocedure by administrative regulation, no person who was not trained under that\ncurriculum shall perform any activity or procedure authorized by the new\ncurriculum or administrative regulation unless the person has been trained\naccording to the new curriculum or administrative regulation and demonstrates\ncompetency in the new knowledge or skill. Competency in a new skill shall be\ndemonstrated through a return demonstration to a competent evaluator. If the board\nadopts the new procedure or skill, the board shall promulgate an administrative\nregulation specifying the new procedure, training requirements, examination\nrequirements, and a time period during which t he first responder shall successfully\ncomplete the new material or lose his or her certification as a first responder.\n(3) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, nothing in this section shall\nprevent an employer from exercising reasonable fi scal control over the costs of\nproviding emergency medical services to its citizens nor to prevent the employer\nfrom exercising any reasonable control over first responders providing emergency\nmedical care on behalf of a licensed entity or other provider.\n(4) Nothing in this section shall be construed to permit utilization of any certified first\nresponder for the purpose of such individual working with primary responsibility\nand duties limited to hospitals, physician's offices, clinics, or other definitive care\nfacilities, except as a first responder trainee or as a full -time instructor of first\nresponders.","path":["KRS Chapter 311A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30749","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:08Z","sha256":"0b4456287655032c30e03cd2e62fae9a39ffc195917c574287c6d6f5130e7112","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311a.155","next":"us-ky/krs-311a.165"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
