{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311a.165","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311A.165","heading":"Emergency medical technicians -- Permitted activities -- Reasonable","body":"control by employers -- Utilization of emergency medical technicians in\nmedical care facilities.\n(1) An emergency medical technician may, subject to the provisions of this section,\nperform any procedure:\n(a) Specified in the most recent curriculum of the United States Department of\nTransportation training course for emergency medical technicians; and\n(b) Any additional procedure authorized by the board by administrative\nregulation.\n(2) When there is a change in the United States Department of Transportation\ncurriculum for emergency medical technicians or the board approves an additional\nskill or procedure by administrative regulation, no person who was not trained\nunder that curriculum  or administrative regulation shall perform any activity or\nprocedure in the new curriculum or administrative regulation unless the person has\nbeen trained according to the new curriculum or administrative regulation and\ndemonstrates competency in the new knowledge or skill. Competency in a new skill\nshall be demonstrated through a return demonstration to a competent evaluator. If\nthe board adopts the new procedure or skill, the board shall promulgate an\nadministrative regulation specifying the new procedur e, training requirements,\nexamination requirements, and a time period during which the emergency medical\ntechnician shall successfully complete the new material or lose his or her\ncertification as an emergency medical technician.\n(3) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, nothing in this section shall\nprevent an employer from exercising reasonable fiscal control over the costs of\nproviding emergency medical services to its citizens nor prevent the employer from\nexercising any reasonable contr ol over emergency medical technicians providing\nemergency medical care upon behalf of the licensed entity or other provider.\n(4) Nothing in this section shall be construed to permit utilization of a certified\nemergency medical technician for the purpose of  such individual working with\nprimary responsibility and duties limited to hospitals, physician's offices, clinics, or\nother definitive care facilities, except as an emergency medical technician trainee or\na full-time instructor of emergency medical technicians.","path":["KRS Chapter 311A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30750","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:08Z","sha256":"5487c27e71ab9ad1dc8a974d68a758a92c28df0e10b06f4b4219ea76dc05afb9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311a.160","next":"us-ky/krs-311a.167"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
