{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-314.400","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 314.400","heading":"Definitions for KRS 314.400 to 314.414.","body":"As used in KRS 314.400 to 314.414:\n(1) \"APRN-designated certified nurse-midwife\" means an advanced practice registered\nnurse as defined in KRS 314.011 who is designated by the board as a certified\nnurse-midwife;\n(2) \"Certified professional midwifery services\":\n(a) Means the provision of care to a person during a low -risk pregnancy,\nchildbirth, and the postpartum period, and the care of a normal newborn\nimmediately following birth;\n(b) Includes collaboration with other appropriate licensed health care provid ers as\nspecified by the board by administrative regulation or when otherwise\nindicated; and\n(c) Does not have the same meaning as the practice of an APRN -designated\ncertified nurse-midwife, or the practice of medicine or osteopathy as defined\nin KRS 311.550;\n(3) \"Collaboration\" means the process by which a licensed certified professional\nmidwife and a physician or other appropriate healthcare provider jointly manage the\ncare of a client, the requirements for which shall be defined by the board;\n(4) \"Consultation\" means the process by which a licensed certified professional\nmidwife directs the client to a physician or other appropriate licensed healthcare\nprovider to render an opinion regarding the management of a specific problem or\ncondition, the requirements for which shall be defined by the board;\n(5) \"Council\" means the Licensed Certified Professional Midwives Advisory Council\ncreated in KRS 314.402;\n(6) \"Licensed certified professional midwife\" means a person who is certified by the\nNorth American Registry of Midwives and issued a license by the board to provide\ncertified professional midwifery services in the Commonwealth of Kentucky;\n(7) \"Referral\" means the process by which a licensed certified professional midwife\narranges for an accepting physician o r other appropriate licensed healthcare\nprovider to assume primary management responsibility for the condition requiring\nreferral, which shall not preclude the licensed certified professional midwife from\ncontinuing in the provision of care as mutually agr eed upon with the accepting\nprovider, as regulated by the board; and\n(8) \"Transfer\" means the act of transporting a client to a licensed healthcare facility\nproviding a higher level of care.","path":["KRS Chapter 314"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=48873","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:11Z","sha256":"e522c3619f581941911e003b7c3f8e237a00db2758f05edfa2f7fc0394c6ea7c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-314.390","next":"us-ky/krs-314.402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
