{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-317.410","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 317.410","heading":"Definitions for chapter.","body":"As used in this chapter, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Barber\" means any person who engages in the practice of barbering for the public\ngenerally or for consideration;\n(2) \"Barbering\" means the practice upon the human neck, face, and head, pr incipally of\nshaving or trimming the beard or cutting the hair, but includes also:\n(a) Giving facial and scalp massage or treatments with oils, creams, lotions, or\nother preparations, either by hand or any contrivance;\n(b) Singeing, shampooing, pressing, a rranging, dressing, styling, or dyeing the\nhair or applying hair tonics; and\n(c) Applying to the neck or head cosmetics, lotions, powders, oils, clays, or other\npreparations;\n(3) \"Barber pole\" means a cylinder or pole with alternating stripes of any combin ation,\nincluding but not limited to red and white, or red, white, and blue, which run\ndiagonally along the length of the pole;\n(4) \"Barber school\" or \"school of barbering\" means an operation, place, or\nestablishment in or through which persons are trained or taught the practice of\nbarbering;\n(5) \"Barber shop\" means any establishment in which the practice of barbering is\nconducted for the general public or for consideration and includes a mobile barber\nshop;\n(6) \"Board\" means the Kentucky Board of Barbering;\n(7) \"Endorsement\" means the process of granting a license under this chapter to an\napplicant licensed in another state;\n(8) \"Independent contract owner\" means any barber or apprentice barber licensed under\nthis chapter who leases or rents space in a barber shop;\n(9) \"Lapse fees\" means the annual renewal license fee which would have been paid for\nthe period during which a license has lapsed; and\n(10) \"Mobile barber shop\" means a self-contained unit in which the practice of barbering\nis conducted and which may be moved, towed, or transported from one (1) location\nto another.","path":["KRS Chapter 317"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56215","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:13Z","sha256":"944ca178e1584d7ced8da3eaecbe800bf2d0ccb31d76e269f5311aea665ba6f2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-317.360","next":"us-ky/krs-317.420"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
