{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-318.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 318.010","heading":"Definitions for chapter.","body":"As used in this chapter, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Department\" means Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction;\n(2) \"Journeyman plumber\" means a person who engages or offers to engage, either as\nan occupation or otherwise, in the construction, installation, alteration,\nmaintenance, repair, remodeling or removal, and replacement of plumbing under the\nsupervision, direction, and responsibility of a master plumber;\n(3) \"Master plumber\" means a person who assumes responsible charge, su pervision, or\ndirection of journeyman plumbers, plumbers' apprentices, and other persons in the\nconstruction, installation, or alteration of plumbing or who engages in, offers to\nengage in, or advertises or otherwise represents that he is permitted or qual ified to\nengage in the design, planning, superintending, contracting for, or responsible\ncharge of plumbing;\n(4) \"Plumbing\" means the art of installing in buildings the pipes for distributing the\nwater supply, the fixtures for using water and drainage pipe s for removing waste\nwater and sewage, together with fittings, appurtenances, and appliances of various\nkinds, all within or adjacent to the building. It shall not include the installation of\non-site sewage disposal systems, except for the piping, fixtures , or other\nappurtenances needed within the building. It shall include:\n(a) The water service pipe which forms the connection between the property line\nand the building, other than piping serving firefighting equipment;\n(b) Private water supply systems;\n(c) House sewers which convey the waste water and sewage from the building to\nthe property line or other points of disposal, but not including sewers located\nbetween manholes and sewers extending five (5) feet from a main or manhole\non private property;\n(d) Storm sewers and rain water piping located within a building to a point two\n(2) feet outside of the building; and\n(e) Medical gas piping;\n(5) \"Public building\" means any building intended for public use or built with public\nfunds and includes but is not lim ited to the following: schools, industrial\nestablishments, housing projects, restaurants, food -handling establishments, private\nclubs, theaters including drive -ins, trailer coach parks, camping areas, hospitals,\nnursing homes, hotels, motels, tourist court s, rooming houses, boarding houses, and\nother establishments furnishing public sleeping accommodations;\n(6) \"Maintenance man\" means a person employed to maintain and keep plumbing in\ngood repair;\n(7) \"Apprentice\" means a person in the process of learning t he plumbing trade who\nassists and is under the personal supervision of a licensed master or licensed\njourneyman plumber;\n(8) \"Farmstead\" means a farm dwelling together with other farm buildings and\nstructures incident to the operation and maintenance of the farm situated on ten (10)\nacres or more of land which is located outside the corporate limits of a municipality;\n(9) \"Person\" means any individual, public or private corporation, political subdivision,\ngovernment agency, municipality, copartnership, association, firm, trust, estate, or\nother entity whatsoever;\n(10) \"Commissioner\" means the commissioner of the Department of Hou sing, Buildings\nand Construction; and\n(11) \"Code\" means the Kentucky State Plumbing Code.","path":["KRS Chapter 318"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=31183","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:14Z","sha256":"f4a89a8b0fc705ec783e17b2d7a286848a8903b0d2ff22c5aa249e97ee071270","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-317b.060","next":"us-ky/krs-318.015"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
