{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-318.040","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 318.040","heading":"Qualifications -- Examinations -- Reciprocity.","body":"(1) An applicant for a master or journeyman plumber's license shall:\n(a) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;\n(b) Be of good moral character;\n(c) Be a citizen of the United States or be a resident alien who is authorized\nto work in the United States; and\n(d) Possess  all the other qualifications that may  be  prescribed by\nadministrative regulations of the commissioner.\n(2) Except  as otherwise provided in this chapter, no master or journeyman\nplumber's license shall be issued except upon a successful passage of an\nexamination as prescribed by the department.\n(3) Examinations for a license as a master plumber or journeyman plumber shall\nbe conducted at times and places fixed by the regulations of the commissioner.\nApplicants for an examination shall furnish the information required by the\ncommissioner and shall receive from the department due notice of the time and\nplace of the examination.\n(4) The  department shall prepare or cause to be prepared under its supervision\nexaminations consisting of written and practical tests with such questions and\ntests by which the department will determine:\n(a) With respect to master plumber's license applicants, that applicants are\nqualified in view of the definitions, provisions, and purposes of this\nchapter to carry on  responsibly, reasonably, and  competently, the\nactivities which a licensed master plumber is authorized to engage in by\nthis chapter; and\n(b) With respect to journeyman plumber's license applicants, their knowledge\nand competency to carry on the activities which a licensed journeyman\nplumber is authorized to engage in by this chapter.\n(5) The examination papers shall be preserved by the department for a period of\none (1) year.\n(6) The department may issue a license to any person who holds a valid license in\nanother state if that state has a statewide plumbing code, the other state's\nexamination is at least equal to that of Kentucky, and the other state agrees to\nreciprocate with Kentucky.","path":["KRS Chapter 318"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46996","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:14Z","sha256":"455e8e824eb5fdda2ffd1ef963abfb75e8eb91d75eefe82e59164bd6d49cdff6","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-318.030","next":"us-ky/krs-318.050"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
