{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-321.255","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 321.255","heading":"Scope of practice -- Allied animal health professional equine dental","body":"provider.\n(1) The services provided by allied animal health professional licensees are considered\nthe practice of veterinary medicine that an AAHP licensee may provide to th e\npublic through authorization by the General Assembly and within strict limitations\non the scope of practice for each allowable license type as established in KRS\n321.251(2).\n(2) For a licensed AAHP -equine dental provider, the scope of practice is limited  to the\nfollowing:\n(a) A licensed AAHP -equine dental provider may not perform equine dentistry\nunless the provider holds an AAHP license as an equine dental provider from\nthe board;\n(b) A licensed AAHP -equine dental provider shall work under the indirect\nsupervision of a veterinarian;\n(c) A licensed AAHP -equine dental provider may perform only the following\nequine dental procedures in equine species:\n1. Removing sharp enamel dental points;\n2. Removing small dental overgrowths;\n3. Rostral profiling of the first cheek teeth;\n4. Reducing incisors;\n5. Extracting loose, deciduous teeth;\n6. Removing supragingival calculus;\n7. Extracting loose, mobile, or diseased teeth or dental fragments  with\nminimal periodontal attachments by hand and without the use of an\nelevator; and\n8. Removing erupted, nondisplaced wolf teeth;\n(d) Paragraph (b) of this subsection shall not be construed to prohibit a licensed\nveterinary technician employed by a veter inarian who is not a licensed\nAAHP-equine dental provider from performing the equine dental procedures\ndescribed in paragraph (c) of this subsection if the licensed veterinary\ntechnician is under the direct supervision of a veterinarian;\n(e) A copy of the dental chart of an equine animal shall be left with the person\nwho authorizes an equine dental procedure and be made available to the\nveterinarian holding the VCPR with the client within an appropriate\ntimeframe according to the condition, but no more than  three (3) business\ndays after services are provided; and\n(f) Dispensing or prescribing any medication or drug associated with any equine\ndental procedure remains solely the domain of the veterinarian holding a valid\nVCPR with the client.","path":["KRS Chapter 321"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56279","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:17Z","sha256":"939d8ffeefa5dbfb453cd3e7b20d080bec6ab40ca00d7dd1cc645a7343a6ad2f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-321.253","next":"us-ky/krs-321.257"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
