{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-322.045","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 322.045","heading":"Requirements for licensure as a professional land surveyor -- Education,","body":"experience.\n(1) A person shall qualify for licensure as a professional land surveyor if he or she has:\n(a) Passed the Fundamentals of Land Surveying Examination and is thereby\ndesignated a land surveyor in training according to the conditions set forth in\neither paragraph (c) of this subsection or KRS 322.047(1)(a);\n(b) Passed the Principles and Practice of Land Surveying Examination; and\n(c) Met one (1) of the following requirements set out in this paragraph:\n1. Graduation from a board -approved program of four (4) years or more in\nland surveying from a college or university and not less than three (3)\nyears of progressive experience in land surveying under the direct\nsupervision o f a practicing professional land surveyor. The experience\nshall be of a grade and character to indicate to the board that the\napplicant is competent to practice land surveying. Applicants shall be\neligible to take the Fundamentals of Land Surveying Examination during\nthe final year of the program;\n2. Graduation from a program of four (4) years or more in other than land\nsurveying from a college or university of recognized standing,\ncompletion of a twenty-four (24) semester credit hour core curriculum in\nland surveying, and not less than four (4) years of progressive\nexperience in land surveying under the direct supervision of a practicing\nprofessional land surveyor. The experience shall be of a grade and\ncharacter to indicate to the board that the applicant is competent to\npractice land surveying;\na. The core curriculum in land surveying may be completed as part of\nthe four (4) year program or may be taken in addition to that\nprogram; and\nb. Applicants shall be eligible to take the Fundamentals of Land\nSurveying Examination upon completion of the core curriculum in\nland surveying or during the final year in the program if twelve\n(12) hours or more of the core curriculum in land surveying have\nbeen completed; or\n3. Graduation from a civil, mining, or agricultur al engineering program of\nfour (4) years or more accredited by the Engineering Accreditation\nCommission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and\nTechnology or any engineering program deemed equivalent by the\nboard, completion of twelve (12) semester credit hours of the core\ncurriculum in land surveying referenced in subparagraph 2. of this\nparagraph, and not less than four (4) years of progressive experience in\nland surveying under the direct supervision of a practicing professional\nland surveyor. The  experience shall be of a grade and character to\nindicate to the board that the applicant is competent to practice land\nsurveying;\na. The twelve (12) hours of the core curriculum in land surveying\nmay be completed as part of the engineering program or may be\ntaken in addition to that program; and\nb. Applicants shall be eligible to take the Fundamentals of Land\nSurveying Examination upon graduation from the engineering\nprogram or during the final year in the program if twelve (12)\nhours of the core curriculu m in land surveying have been\ncompleted.\n(2) Any person having the necessary qualifications prescribed in subsection (1) of this\nsection or any applicable qualifications prescribed in KRS 322.047(1)(a) shall be\neligible to apply for licensure, even if the applicant is not practicing the profession\nat the time of application.\n(3) The board shall promulgate administrative regulations to establish requirements for\nconsideration of experience gained prior to graduation from programs as described\nin subsection (1)(c)1., 2., and 3. of this section, and for the surveying core\ncurriculum described in subsection (1)(c)2. and 3. of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 322"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=31422","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:17Z","sha256":"b9c9ab7a2c80032386a61fbaee1d7ed963c71ac9e0f89bef5f35360bc6958990","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-322.040","next":"us-ky/krs-322.047"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
