{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-322a.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 322A.010","heading":"Definitions for chapter.","body":"As used in this chapter, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Geology\" means the science which treats the earth as a whole; the investigation,\nanalysis, classification, and location of the rocks and other materials which compose\nthe earth's crust; t he study of minerals, gases, and liquids composing and contained\nwithin the earth's crust; and the study of geologic materials and processes;\n(2) \"Geologist\" means a person who is qualified by reason of his or her knowledge of\nthe principles of geology, ac quired by professional education and practical\nexperience, to engage in the public practice of geology;\n(3) \"Public practice of geology\" means the performance of service to the public in\nconnection with the geological description, location, or evaluation o f earth\nmaterials, liquids, and gases and the natural processes acting upon them. The\n\"public practice of geology\" does not include:\n(a) The practice of engineering or land surveying as defined in KRS Chapter 322;\nor\n(b) Design recommendations, design, or plans related to the practice of\nengineering or land surveying as defined in KRS Chapter 322;\n(4) \"Registered geologist\" means a person who is registered as a geologist under the\nprovisions of this chapter;\n(5) \"Board\" means the Kentucky Board of Registration for Professional Geologists; and\n(6) \"Geologist-in-training\" means an individual who has met the academic\nqualifications established by the board, who has successfully passed a written\nexamination approved by the board demonstrating knowledge of the fu ndamentals\nof geology, and who has been enrolled by the board as a geologist-in-training.","path":["KRS Chapter 322A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40728","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:18Z","sha256":"69975979b0f0a393281ae7d46b09e47ea3ea0a9a58f36ffea700b33ae8c86904","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-322.990","next":"us-ky/krs-322a.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
