{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-322a.040","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 322A.040","heading":"Requirements for registration.","body":"(1) In order to qualify for registration, an applicant shall meet all of the following\nrequirements:\n(a) Successful completion of a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours or forty -\nfive (45) quarter hours of course work in geology, culminating in a\nbaccalaureate or advanced degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, or\ngeological/geotechnical engineering from an accredited college or university.\nAt the discretion of the board, courses dealing with applied geological science\nthat are given under the auspices of an academic department other than\ngeology may be considered toward the fulfillment of this requirement.\n(b) Five (5) years of experience in professional geologic work. Professional\ngeologic work may include the instruction of geology at the college or\nuniversity level, the geological research of persons at the college or university\nlevel, and geological work performed while in the employment of the United\nStates, state, or local governments. In counting years of experience, the board\nmay give one (1) year of credit each for a master's degree or doctoral degree in\ngeology, geophysics, geochemistry, or geological/geotechnical engineering.\n(c) A passing score on an examination required by the board that has been\ndesigned to demonstrate that the applicant has th e necessary knowledge and\nskill to exercise the responsibilities of the public practice of geology.\n(d) Enrollment by the board as a geologist-in-training.\n(2) Until July 31, 2015, any individual who serves in a geologic position or performs\ngeologic work for a local or state government in this state may become a registered\ngeologist under this chapter if the individual submits the proper application to the\nboard and meets the requirements of subsection (1)(a), (b), and (c) of this section.\n(3) Credit towar d the experience and education requirements shall be subject to\nevaluation and approval by the board.\n(4) Documentation of competency and integrity may be required by the board.\n(5) Upon application, registration may be provided to those registered or cert ified as\ngeologists in another state having standards at least equal to those provided in this\nsection.","path":["KRS Chapter 322A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40731","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:18Z","sha256":"dc3da45afe66902685f9616564f45cf281b816b7b6518b3534a2e493cb8b3bb7","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-322a.030","next":"us-ky/krs-322a.045"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
