{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-324.046","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 324.046","heading":"Requirements for initial licensure.","body":"(1) Every applicant for initial licensure as a broker shall have:\n(a) Successfully completed not less than twenty-one (21) academic credit hours or\nthe equivalent from an accredited institution or approved real estate school.\nTwelve (12) hours shall be in real  estate courses, three (3) hours of which\nshall be a course in broker management skills. The commission shall, by\npromulgation of administrative regulations, determine the required course\ncontent of broker management skills courses; and\n(b) Been engaged in the real estate business as a sales associate averaging at least\ntwenty (20) hours per week for a period of twenty -four (24) months prior to\napplication.\n(2) Every applicant for initial licensure as a sales associate shall have successfully\ncompleted six (6) academic credit hours or their equivalent in real estate courses\nfrom an accredited institution or approved real estate school.\n(3) Proof of the academic credit hours shall be an official transcript from the attended\nuniversity or other documentation s atisfactory to the commission. Proof of the\nrequisite experience as a sales associate shall be either a sworn notarized statement\nsigned by the principal broker or principal brokers or other documentation\nsatisfactory to the commission. The applicant may f ile a complaint with the\ncommission if the principal broker unjustly refuses to sign the statement.\n(4) The commission may reduce the two (2) year experience requirement for applicants\nfor a broker's license to one (1) year, if the applicant has an associa te degree in real\nestate or a baccalaureate degree with a major or minor in real estate.\n(5) Persons licensed under the real estate laws of this state prior to June 19, 1976 shall\nnot be subject to any educational changes in this chapter or subject to any\ncontinuing education requirements.","path":["KRS Chapter 324"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=31551","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:19Z","sha256":"2d9ca633c990e6bb6e53cf74cdad18158c8b76586dca0074788b1452a74ddceb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-324.045","next":"us-ky/krs-324.047"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
