{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-329a.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 329A.020","heading":"Kentucky Board of Licensure for Private Investigators -- Members --","body":"Appointment -- Vacancies -- Reimbursement -- Meetings -- Removal of\nmembers -- Liability insurance.\n(1) The Kentucky Board of Licensure for Private Investigators is hereby created.\n(2) The board shall consist of seven (7) members appointed by the Governor.\n(a) One (1) member shall be an attorney from the Office of the Attorney General\nto be designated by the Attorney General;\n(b) One (1) member shall be a municipal police officer of t he rank of captain or\nabove;\n(c) One (1) member shall be a county sheriff;\n(d) Three (3) members shall each have been private investigators for at least five\n(5) years prior to the date of their appointment and shall be of recognized\nbusiness standing; and\n(e) One (1) member shall be a citizen at large who is not associated with or\nfinancially interested in the practice of private investigating.\n(3) All members shall be residents of this state and possess good moral character.\n(4) The original members of th e board shall be appointed by no later than January 1,\n2003, as follows:\n(a) One (1) member to a one (1) year term;\n(b) Two (2) members to a two (2) year term;\n(c) Two (2) members to a three (3) year term; and\n(d) Two (2) members to a four (4) year term.\n(5) After the initial appointments to the board, all members shall serve a two (2) year\nterm.\n(6) Any vacancy occurring on the board shall be filled by the Governor.\n(7) No member may serve more than two (2) full consecutive terms.\n(8) No member shall continue to serve if the member no longer meets the qualifications\nrequired under subsections (2) and (3) of this section.\n(9) The three (3) board members who are private investigators and the member at large\nshall receive the sum of one hu ndred dollars ($100) per day for each day the board\nmeets. All members shall receive reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses\nincurred in the performance of their official duties.\n(10) The board shall annually elect a chairman, a vice chairman, and a secretary-treasurer\nfrom the membership of the board.\n(11) The board shall hold at least two (2) meetings annually and additional meetings as\nthe board may deem necessary. Additional meetings may be held upon call of the\nchairman or upon written request of a quorum. Four (4) members of the board shall\nconstitute a quorum to conduct business.\n(12) Upon recommendation of the board, the Governor may remove any member of the\nboard for neglect of duty or malfeasance in office.\n(13) The board may purchase professional liability insurance for the board members and\nagents and staff of the board.","path":["KRS Chapter 329A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=31760","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:22Z","sha256":"565d3b01d12bc26035d7292ce324b1816860b8ed2af801673a2fe0ceb8c9d6e9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-329a.015","next":"us-ky/krs-329a.025"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
