{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-332.095","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 332.095","heading":"CDL training schools -- Curriculum -- Evaluation -- Refresher course --","body":"Ratio of students to instructors -- Drug test.\n(1) All CDL driver training schools, as defined in KRS 165A.310, shall offer a\nminimum one hundred sixty (160) hours of instructio n to each student that has\nnever been issued a CDL by any state. Each school shall be required to use the\ncurriculum that has been approved by the Kentucky Commission on Proprietary\nEducation in consultation with the Department of Kentucky State Police and  the\nKentucky Community and Technical College System. Each school shall perform an\nevaluation of each student and determine the student's skill level to operate a\ncommercial motor vehicle as beginner, intermediate, or advanced. The curriculum\nshall require a minimum number of hours of instruction based upon a student's skill\nlevel.\n(2) Each school may provide the one hundred sixty (160) hour approved curriculum in\na manner that best utilizes the staff and equipment of the school including but not\nlimited to nights, weekends, holidays, and hours of operation.\n(3) All CDL driver training schools, as defined in KRS 165A.310, may offer a refresher\ncourse of instruction to a resident who has one (1) year or more verifiable\nexperience operating a commercial motor vehicle. The schools shall verify and\nmaintain records documenting those students attending a refresher course. A\nrefresher course may be offered on an hourly basis.\n(4) The ratio of students to instructors during a one hundred sixty (160) hour course\nshall not exceed:\n(a) Thirty (30) students to one (1) instructor during classroom instruction;\n(b) Six (6) students to one (1) instructor during off-the-road training; and\n(c) Three (3) students to one (1) instructor during on-the-road training.\n(5) All CDL dr iver training schools, as defined in KRS 165A.310, shall require each\nstudent to undergo a drug test at the time the person applies to enroll in the school.","path":["KRS Chapter 332"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40338","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:22Z","sha256":"f6284d0e55e2cccb6a56ec47a640c9ba884a15e1af48137a62a6b543b0b083ab","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-332.090","next":"us-ky/krs-332.100"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
