{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-334a.034","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 334A.034","heading":"Speech-language pathology assistant -- Scope of practice.","body":"(1) If the training, supervision, documentation, and planning are appropriate, the\nfollowing tasks may be delegated to a speech-language pathology assistant:\n(a) Conduct speech -language and hearing screenings without interpretation\nfollowing specified screening protocols developed by a speech -language\npathologist and audiologist, respectively;\n(b) Follow documented treatment plans or protocols as prescribed by the\nsupervisor;\n(c) Document student progress toward meeting established objectives as stated in\nthe treatment plan;\n(d) Provide direct treatment assistance to identified students under the supervision\nof the supervisor;\n(e) Assist with clerical and other related duties as directed by the supervisor;\n(f) Report to the supervisor about the treatment plan based on a student's\nperformance;\n(g) Schedule activities, prepare charts, records, graphs, or otherwise display data.\nThis shall not include report generation;\n(h) Perform simple checks and maintenance of equipment;\n(i) Participate with the supervisor in research projects, in -service training, and\npublic relations programs;\n(j) Assist in the development and maintenance of an appropriate schedule for\nservice delivery;\n(k) Assist in implementing collaborative activities with other professionals;\n(l) Assist in administering tests for diagnostic evaluations and progress\nmonitoring; and\n(m) Participate in parent conferences, case conferences, or any interdisciplinary\nteam in consultation with, or in the presence of, the supervisor.\n(2) The following activities shall be outside the scope of practice of the speech -\nlanguage pathology assistant:\n(a) Performing any activity which violates the code of ethics promulgated by the\nboard in administrative regulation;\n(b) Interpreting test results or performing diagnostic evaluations without\nsupervision;\n(c) Conducting client or family counseling w ithout the recommendation,\nguidance, and approval of the supervisor;\n(d) Writing, developing, or modifying a student's individualized treatment plan in\nany way without the recommendation, guidance, and approval of the\nsupervisor;\n(e) Treating students with out following the individualized treatment plan\nprepared by the supervisor or without access to supervision;\n(f) Signing any due process document without the cosignature of the supervisor;\n(g) Selecting or discharging students;\n(h) Disclosing clinical or c onfidential information, either orally or in writing, to\nanyone not designated by the supervisor;\n(i) Making referrals for additional services; and\n(j) Representing himself or herself as something other than a speech -language\npathology assistant.","path":["KRS Chapter 334A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53763","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:23Z","sha256":"8a2d4f6af85fcaae80e5185320672a24a952c0678b79fa89b3eb6b673632e139","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-334a.033","next":"us-ky/krs-334a.035"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
