{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-335.305","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 335.305","heading":"Use of titles \"licensed marriage and family therapist\" and \"marriage and","body":"family therapy associate\" -- Application and construction of KRS 335.300 to\n335.399.\n(1) Except as provided in KRS 335.307 and subsection (2) of this section:\n(a) No person shall  use the title \"licensed marriage and family therapist,\"\n\"LMFT,\" or a title which is substantially the same, or hold himself or herself\nout as having this status, unless licensed by the board.\n(b) No person shall use the title \"marriage and family therapy associate\" or hold\nhimself or herself out as having this status, unless holding a permit issued by\nthe board.\n(2) The provisions of KRS 335.300 to 335.399 shall not apply to persons licensed,\ncertified, or registered under any other provision of the Kentuc ky Revised Statutes,\nincluding, but not limited to, physicians, social workers, psychologists, art\ntherapists, and nurses, or students within accredited training programs of these\nprofessions. Nothing in KRS 335.300 to 335.399 shall be construed to limit,\ninterfere with, or restrict the practice, descriptions of services, or manner in which\nthese persons hold themselves out to the public.\n(3) Nothing in KRS 335.300 to 335.399 shall be construed to alter, amend, or interfere\nwith the practice of employment c ounseling, job placement counseling, or school\ncounseling.\n(4) Nothing in KRS 335.300 to 335.399 shall be construed to apply to the activities and\nservices of a student intern or trainee in marriage and family therapy who is\npursuing a program of studies i n marriage and family therapy at an accredited\ninstitution of higher learning if these activities are performed under the supervision\nand constitute a part of the supervised program of study, and if the person is\ndesignated a counseling intern, a marriage and family therapist intern, or student in\ntraining.","path":["KRS Chapter 335"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=31939","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:24Z","sha256":"bf376cb63663aab9e9dce05f4ab7dc7a5b5ceff4bcc32c76c7cdf6d7dd093c69","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-335.300","next":"us-ky/krs-335.307"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
