{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-335.620","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 335.620","heading":"Application for licensure -- Conversion of certificate to license.","body":"(1) An applicant for licensure as a pastoral counselor shall:\n(a) Pay the board an initial fee for licensure that shall be established by\nadministrative regulation promulgated in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A;\n(b) Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age;\n(c) Reside or be employed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky;\n(d) Have completed a master of divinity degree or its equivalent with a minimum\nof ninety (90) hours from a seminary accredited by the Association of\nTheological Schools or an equivalent course of st udy as defined by the board\nby promulgation of administrative regulations;\n(e) Have completed each of the following:\n1. At least one thousand three hundred seventy -five (1,375) hours in the\npractice of supervised pastoral counseling acceptable to the board ,\nsubsequent to being granted a master's degree; and\n2. A minimum of two hundred fifty (250) hours of clinical supervision\nacceptable to the board;\n(f) Be an ordained minister or the denominational equivalent, as determined by\nthe applicant's denomination or faith group, and have been endorsed by that\ndenomination or faith group to function as a pastoral counselor;\n(g) Hold an advanced degree or its equivalent beyond the master of divinity\ndegree with special concentration in the theory and practice of past oral\ncounseling and which requires at least one (1) year of academic work beyond\nthe first professional degree; and\n(h) Pass a written examination approved by the board.\n(2) If an applicant has been issued a certificate in pastoral counseling by the board prior\nto January 1, 2015, and maintains that certificate in good standing, the board shall\nissue the applicant a license as a pastoral counselor upon the applicant's payment of\na renewal fee and completion of a renewal process as authorized by KRS 335.625\nand as prescribed by the board through the promulgation of administrative\nregulations.","path":["KRS Chapter 335"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43265","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:24Z","sha256":"b77b7e9621f8e3a22a996efd9f75717b0dbc41bc0097496bf9a30224dce75759","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-335.615","next":"us-ky/krs-335.625"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
