{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-337.015","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 337.015","heading":"Leave of absence for employee to receive adoptive child -- Adoptive","body":"parents to receive paid leave and other benefits provided to birth parents --\nExemptions..\n(1) Upon receiving written request by an employee, every employer shall grant\nreasonable personal leave not to exceed six (6) weeks, or if the employer has\nestablished a policy providing time off for birth parents that is greater than six (6)\nweeks, that period of time shall be the minimum period of leave available to\nadoptive parents, when the reception of an adoptive child under the age of ten (10)\nis the reason for such request.\n(2) If an employer provides paid leave or any other benefits to employees who are birth\nparents following the birth of a child, it shall also provide the same type, amount,\nand duration of paid leave and other benefits to employees following the adoption\nof a child.\n(3) This section shall not apply to an adoption by a fictive kin, stepparent, stepsibling,\nblood relative, including a relative of halfblood, first cousin, aunt, uncle, nephew,\nniece, and a person of a preceding generation as denoted by prefixes of grand, great,\nor great-great, or a foster parent who adopts a foster child who is already in their\ncare.","path":["KRS Chapter 337"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=51086","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:26Z","sha256":"de582163b65a780a0b3fe3b53e70d8c8bb014089c3bebcc624d7ea9ce7e95ef5","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-337.010","next":"us-ky/krs-337.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
