{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-34.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 34.010","heading":"Terms -- Appointments.","body":"(1) Members of judicial nominating commissions, both statewide and local, shall hold\noffice for a term of four (4) years and until such time as their successors shall be\nappointed or elected, except as provided in subsection (2).\n(2) Of those members appointed  by the Governor to the first judicial nominating\ncommissions, the appointments shall be as follows:\n(a) One (1) member of the political party having the largest number of registered\nvoters and one (1) member of the political party having the second larges t\nnumber of registered voters shall be appointed for a term to expire January 1,\n1980; and\n(b) One (1) member of the political party having the largest number of registered\nvoters and one (1) member of the political party having the second largest\nnumber of registered voters shall be appointed for a term to expire January 1,\n1978.\n(3) Thereafter, as each term expires, the vacancy so created shall be filled by an\nappointee from the same political party for a term of four (4) years.\n(4) Appointments or electi ons to fill the unexpired term of a member shall be for the\nremainder of the term.\n(5) Members representing the bar shall be elected according to rules promulgated by the\nSupreme Court with the expenses of the elections being paid from the State\nTreasury.","path":["KRS Chapter 34"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=21271","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:51Z","sha256":"90c7ffa813d802ad00b50e41d2ae3b16a62b6bdda083f594cd922f357526a647","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-339.990","next":"us-ky/krs-34.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
