{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-351.109","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 351.109","heading":"Requirements for qualification and certification to perform electrical work","body":"-- Written tests.\n(1) An individual is a qualified and certified person, within the meaning of this chapter,\nto perform electrical work, other than work on energized surface, high voltage lines,\nif he has at least one (1) year of experience under direct supervision of a qualified\nelectrician in performing electrical work underground in a coal mine, in the surface\nwork areas of an underground coal mine, in a surface coal mine, i n a noncoal mine,\nin the mine equipment manufacturing industry, or in any other industry using or\nmanufacturing similar equipment, and he attains a satisfactory grade on each of the\nseries of written tests administered by the department and required in sub section (2)\nof this section.\n(2) The series of written tests shall include, but not be limited to, the following\nsubjects:\n(a) Direct current theory and application;\n(b) Alternating current theory and application;\n(c) Electric equipment and circuits;\n(d) Permissibility of electric equipment;\n(e) Requirements of both federal and state laws; and\n(f) Pertinent sections of the National Electrical Code.\n(3) A score of at least eighty (80) percent on each of the written tests shall be deemed to\nbe a satisfactory grade. Recognition shall be given to practical experience in that\none (1) percentage point shall be added to an individual's score in each test for each\nadditional year of experience beyond the one (1) year minimum requirement\nspecified in subsection (1) of this section; however, in no case shall an individual be\ngiven more than five (5) percentage points for such practical experience.\n(4) An individual may, within thirty (30) days from the date on which he received\nnotification from the department of his t est scores, repeat those sections on which\nhe received an unsatisfactory score. If further retesting is necessary after this initial\nrepetition, a minimum of thirty (30) days from the date of receipt of notification of\nthe initial retest scores shall elaps e prior to such further retesting, whereupon the\nentire series of written tests shall be retaken.\n(5) An individual qualified and certified in accordance with this section shall, in order\nto retain qualification and certification, satisfactorily complete a nnually a retraining\nprogram approved by the department.","path":["KRS Chapter 351"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=32913","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:37Z","sha256":"ef05edec826a97320c006325da12a5eccca08b744e014bbbcb6430145e85bfe1","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-351.108","next":"us-ky/krs-351.110"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
