{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-352.230","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 352.230","heading":"Use of electrical equipment.","body":"For purposes of this section: \"approved\" means that a device, apparatus, equipment,\nmachinery, or practice employed in the mining of coal has been approved by the\ncommissioner of the Department for Natural Resources or accepted by a nationally or\nfederally recognized testing laboratory or the Department of Labor Mine Safety and\nHealth Administration; \"suitable\" means a design, material, or installation that meets the\nrequirements of its intended use or that is accepted by a nationally or federally recognized\ntesting laboratory or the Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration.\n(1) All electrical equipment and all other electric -driven equipment except intrinsically\nsafe equipment which is taken into or used inby the last open crosscut and in r eturn\nairways in underground mines shall be permissible. The commissioner or his\nauthorized representative shall reject any modification to mining equipment which\nwould endanger the health or safety of employees.\n(2) Headlights shall be properly installed and maintained in a workmanlike manner and\nworking order on all mobile and face equipment at all times the equipment is in\noperation.\n(3) Headlights shall be mounted to provide maximum illumination where it will be\nmost effective and shall be protected from damage by guarding or locations.\n(4) At all times when mining equipment is being used, it shall be maintained in safe\nworking order. Electrical equipment and circuits shall be examined and tested in a\nsuitable manner by certified electricians to ensure safe working order.\n(5) Combustible materials, grease, lubricants, or flammable liquids shall not be allowed\nto accumulate where they can create a fire hazard.\n(6) All electrical equipment utilized in intake airways outby the last open crosscut shall\nbe maintained in safe operating condition and in accordance with the manufacturer's\ninstructions.","path":["KRS Chapter 352"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=33000","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:38Z","sha256":"277b581b7fc12c18077f1a1f570957540633ec6c8e1d39a0e229bca4f0f07847","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-352.220","next":"us-ky/krs-352.232"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
