{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-353.150","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 353.150","heading":"Unused oil, gas or salt water well to be closed to prevent waste.","body":"(1) Any person in possession as owner, lessee, agent or manager of any well in which\noil, gas or salt water has been found shall, unless the product is utilized, close the\nwell within a reasonable time not exceeding three (3) months from the completion\nof the well, in order to prevent the product from wasting by escape, and keep the\nwell closed until the product is utilized. This subsection does not apply to gas\nescaping from any well while it is being operated as an oil well, or while it is used\nfor fresh or mineral water.\n(2) If a person fails to comply with subsection (1), any person lawfully in possession of\nland adjacent to or in the neighborhood of the well may enter upon the land on\nwhich the well is located and tube and pack it, and shut in the oil, gas  or salt water.\nAny person so closing the well may maintain a civil action against the owner,\nlessee, agent or manager, jointly and severally, to recover the cost.","path":["KRS Chapter 353"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=33064","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:39Z","sha256":"be8b6ac673c3ad88a948e818d72c1f106b3588a144fb7a9fd7cc475289e860e9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-353.140","next":"us-ky/krs-353.160"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
