{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-355.9-301","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 355.9-301","heading":"Law governing perfection and priority of security interests.","body":"Except as otherwise provided in KRS 355.9 -303 to 355.9 -3062, the following rules\ndetermine the law governing perfection, the effect of perfection or nonperfection, and the\npriority of a security interest in collateral:\n(1) Except as otherwise provided in this section, while a debtor is located in a\njurisdiction, the local law of that jurisdiction governs perfection, the effect of\nperfection or nonperfection, and the priority of a security interest in collateral;\n(2) While collateral is located in a jurisdiction, the local law of that jurisdiction governs\nperfection, the effect of perfection or nonperfection, and the priority of a possessory\nsecurity interest in that collateral;\n(3) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (4) of this section, while negotiable\ntangible documents, goods, instruments, or tangible money is located in a\njurisdiction, the local law of that jurisdiction governs:\n(a) Perfection of a security interest in the goods by filing a fixture filing;\n(b) Perfection of a security interest in timber to be cut; and\n(c) The effect of perfection or nonperfection and the priority of a nonpossessory\nsecurity interest in the collateral; and\n(4) The local law of the j urisdiction in which the wellhead or minehead is located\ngoverns perfection, the effect of perfection or nonperfection, and the priority of a\nsecurity interest in as-extracted collateral.","path":[],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55680","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:47Z","sha256":"8ccf4596041dbe3c7100eb4ba4b6ce611263d6b5d149ac2dc005468f3590480e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-355.9-210","next":"us-ky/krs-355.9-302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
