{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-37.170","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 37.170","heading":"Kentucky State Defense Force -- Organization -- Reorganization.","body":"(1) The Governor is hereby authorized to enlist, organize, maintain, equip, discipline\nand pay when called into active field service a volunteer state defense force other\nthan the National Guard, which shall constitute the active militia and shall be\nknown as the Kentucky State Defense Force, which shall consist of able -bodied\ncitizens who are residents of the State of Kentucky between the ages of eighteen\n(18) and sixty-four (64) who are not active members of a reserve component of the\nArmed Forces of the United States.\n(2) Whenever the President of the United States shall call any part of the National\nGuard of this state into active federal service, the Governor is hereby authorized to\norganize the Kentucky State Defense Force under such regulations as may be\npromulgated by the Governor or adjutant general.\n(3) The Governor shall have the power to alter, divide, annex, disband or reorganize\nany organization of the Kentucky State Defense Force whenever in his judgment the\nefficiency of the state forces will ther eby be increased, and he shall have power to\nchange the organization so as to conform to the regulations now or hereafter\nprescribed by the laws of the United States for the organization of the National\nGuard or militia.","path":["KRS Chapter 37"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=21507","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:55Z","sha256":"fa98c1a7cc6623008f8f18968461c4ba506846f43486f3b51593d1bca7b54b47","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-37.160","next":"us-ky/krs-37.180"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
