{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-382.220","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 382.220","heading":"General index of real property records in counties containing urban -","body":"county government or city with population of 20,000 or more -- Contracts for\nindexing work.\n(1) Except in counties having a courthouse district as provided in KRS 382.210, the\nfiscal court in each county containing an urban -county government or a city with a\npopulation equal to or greater than twenty thousand (20,000) based upon the most\nrecent federal decennial census may in its discretion direct the county clerk to have\nmade in boo ks prepared for that purpose general indexes of the records of all the\nreal property in the county according to a system approved by the fiscal court or the\nlegislative body of the urban -county government. The county clerk shall advertise\nfor bids for all the work necessary to install the system under specifications\napproved by the county judge/executive or mayor of the urban -county government\nand shall, with the approval of the fiscal court or the legislative body of the urban -\ncounty government, enter into  a contract with the lowest and best bidder for the\nwork, after requiring him to give bond for the faithful performance of the contract in\na sum to be fixed by the fiscal court or the legislative body of the urban -county\ngovernment and approved by the coun ty judge/executive or mayor of the urban -\ncounty government, and when the work has been completed to its satisfaction, the\nfiscal court or the legislative body of the urban -county government shall direct the\npayment agreed upon out of the general fund of the county.\n(2) When general indexes are completed they shall constitute the official indexes and\nthe clerk of the county shall keep the indexes up to date by indexing therein the\nrecords of all real property within one (1) month from the time they are lodge d for\nrecord, and when so indexed the alphabetical cross -index of such instruments need\nno longer be preserved, and when such records or any part of them become defaced\nor injured the clerk shall transcribe the defaced or injured records into new books,\nwhich shall be as valid in law as the original record.\n(3) In order that such additional indexes may be kept correctly and accurately, the fiscal\ncourt or the legislative body of the urban -county government may employ a\ncompetent person to keep the system of  indexing and shall pay such person a sum\nnot less than two thousand four hundred dollars ($2,400) nor more than four\nthousand dollars ($4,000) per annum, out of the general funds of the county.","path":["KRS Chapter 382"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43892","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:12Z","sha256":"126df9ee7d123d6bc07867104693612bc6e1632f06e59997993a15cccb067d0f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-382.210","next":"us-ky/krs-382.225"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
