{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-387.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 387.020","heading":"Jurisdiction of District Courts over guardians, limited guardians, and","body":"conservators -- Venue of proceedings.\n(1) District Courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction for the appointment and removal of\nguardians, limited guardians, and conservators for mi nors, and for the management\nand settlement of their accounts.\n(2) If the minor is a resident of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, venue for all\nproceedings under KRS 387.010 to 387.280 shall be:\n(a) In the county where the will of the minor's last surviving p arent was probated,\nif that will nominates a guardian, limited guardian, or conservator pursuant to\nKRS 387.040;\n(b) In all other cases, in the county where the minor resides.\n(3) If the minor is not a resident of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the venue fo r all\nproceedings under KRS 387.010 to 387.280 shall be in the county where the real or\npersonal property of the minor is located, or if the minor has real or personal\nproperty in more than one (1) county, then venue shall be in any one (1) of the\ncounties where property of the minor is located and where proceedings are first\nbrought for the appointment of a guardian, limited guardian, or conservator.","path":["KRS Chapter 387"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=35987","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:20Z","sha256":"1d08df03d78331c5370105aa6ca754fdf2eb1e8b8b8703ecda56c3abb9460f93","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-387.010","next":"us-ky/krs-387.025"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
