{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-387.520","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 387.520","heading":"Jurisdiction of District Courts -- Venue -- KRS 387.810 to 387.854 to","body":"govern jurisdiction between Kentucky and other states.\n(1) The District Courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all proceedings involving\na determination of partial disability  or disability, the modification of orders, the\nappointment and removal of guardians and conservators, and the management and\nsettlement of their accounts.\n(2) If the respondent or ward is a resident of this state, the venue for all proceedings\nunder KRS 387.500 to 387.770 shall be:\n(a) In the county where the respondent or ward resides;\n(b) In the county of domicile of the respondent or ward; or\n(c) In the county where the parent of the respondent or ward is domiciled if the\nrespondent or ward is a minor. Nothing in this section shall preclude transfer\nof venue for good cause shown.\n(3) If no local conservator has been appointed and no petition in a disability proceeding\nis pending in this state, a domiciliary foreign conservator may file with a court in\nthis state in a county in which property belonging to the disabled person is located,\nauthenticated copies of his or her appointment and of any official bond he or she has\ngiven. Thereafter, he or she may exercise as to assets in this state all powers of a\nlocal conservator and may maintain actions and proceedings in this state subject to\nany conditions imposed upon nonresident parties generally.\n(4) This section shall be subordinate to KRS 387.810 to 387.854 to the extent that those\nsections govern jurisdiction between Kentucky and other states.","path":["KRS Chapter 387"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=39725","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:21Z","sha256":"dab67fc6d43a4a87ea56569e540eafbd36ef330894511cf0f155468d331719e9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-387.510","next":"us-ky/krs-387.530"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
