{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-387.812","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 387.812","heading":"Definitions for KRS 387.810 to 387.854.","body":"As used in KRS 387.810 to 387.854:\n(1) \"Adult\" means an individual who has attained eighteen (18) years of age;\n(2) \"Conservator\" means a person appointed by the court to administer the property of\nan adult, including a person appointed under this chapter;\n(3) \"Guardian\" means a person appo inted by the court to make decisions regarding the\nperson of an adult, including a person appointed under this chapter;\n(4) \"Guardianship order\" means an order appointing a guardian;\n(5) \"Guardianship proceeding\" means a judicial proceeding in which an ord er for the\nappointment of a guardian is sought or has been issued;\n(6) \"Incapacitated person\" means an adult for whom a guardian has been appointed;\n(7) \"Party\" means the respondent, petitioner, guardian, conservator, or any other person\nallowed by the court to participate in a guardianship or protective proceeding;\n(8) \"Person,\" except in the term \"incapacitated person\" or \"protected person,\" means an\nindividual, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, limited liability\ncompany, associatio n, joint venture, public corporation, government or\ngovernmental subdivision, agency, or instrumentality, or any other legal or\ncommercial entity;\n(9) \"Protected person\" means an adult for whom a protective order has been issued;\n(10) \"Protective order\" means an order appointing a conservator or other order related to\nmanagement of an adult's property;\n(11) \"Protective proceeding\" means a judicial proceeding in which a protective order is\nsought or has been issued;\n(12) \"Record\" means information that is in scribed on a tangible medium or that is stored\nin an electronic or other medium and is retrievable in perceivable form;\n(13) \"Respondent\" means an adult for whom a protective order or the appointment of a\nguardian is sought; and\n(14) \"State\" means a state of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico,\nthe United States Virgin Islands, a federally recognized Indian tribe, or any territory\nor insular possession subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.","path":["KRS Chapter 387"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=39703","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:21Z","sha256":"eba97ecf47532dbc03df9c9e8bcfa75191ff375877c59d30702a2d34cc3d50fc","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-387.810","next":"us-ky/krs-387.814"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
