{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-39f.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 39F.020","heading":"Rescue squads -- Formation -- Authorization to operate within a","body":"jurisdiction -- Functions -- Public notification of lost or missing impaired\npersons.\n(1) Rescue squads may be formed and duly authorized to perform in the public interest.\nAuthorization to operate within a jurisdiction may be granted by the chief elected\nofficial of each urban -county government, charter county government, county, or\ncity which the squad proposes to serve. Rescue squads shall have a formal\naffiliation with the local disa ster and emergency services organization. The\nstatement of affiliation shall be renewed annually.\n(2) Except as provided in KRS 39F.040, a rescue squad shall be composed of at least\ntwelve (12) active members and shall maintain at least one (1) vehicle ded icated to\nrescue service. Squads may operate in conjunction with a fire division, or may\noperate as a separate unit.\n(3) Each rescue squad shall develop and maintain bylaws and written procedures to\nspecify, at a minimum, election or appointment, successio n, and term of officers;\nfinancial accounting; property accountability; and rules of notification and response\nto emergencies.\n(4) Rescue squads shall contribute to public safety and welfare by performing functions\nwhich may include but not be limited to: removal of victims trapped in vehicles or\nstructures; search for lost or missing persons or missing impaired persons, except\nthose sought for criminal acts; first aid; emergency evacuation; recovery of\ndrowning victims; recovery of any corpse if not access ible by ambulance or hearse\nand if so authorized by the coroner; and traffic control at an accident scene when\nrequested by law enforcement authorities. Rescue squads organized for the purpose\nof searching for lost or missing persons which are searching fo r an impaired person\nshall work in cooperation with local media outlets to notify the public that an\nimpaired person is lost or missing. Rescue squads shall not engage in law\nenforcement activities other than traffic control.\n(5) The division shall adminis ter funds appropriated for rescue equipment and training\nand the division shall promulgate administrative regulations to be applied to all\nrescue squads that apply for financial assistance.","path":["KRS Chapter 39F"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40535","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:59Z","sha256":"dd42cff44eebf543a71ca1e75c041cf190555bb1e923462070e350d457513188","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-39f.010","next":"us-ky/krs-39f.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
