{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-40.310","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 40.310","heading":"Duties of Department of Veterans' Affairs.","body":"(1) The Department of Veterans' Affairs shall collect all necessary data and information\nregarding facilities and services available to veterans, their families, and\ndependents, and shall cooperate with all information or service agencies throughout\nthe state in informing such persons regarding the existence or availability of all\neducational, training, and retraining facilities; health, medical, rehabilitation, and\nhousing services and facilities; employment and reemployment services; provisions\nof federal, st ate, and local laws affording rights, privileges, and benefits to said\npersons, their families, and dependents, and all other matters of similar related or\nappropriate nature. It shall likewise be the duty of the department to assist veterans\nand their fam ilies and dependents in the presentation, proof, and establishment of\nall claims, privileges, rights, and other benefits which they may have under federal,\nstate, or local laws, and to cooperate with all national, state, and local government\nand private agencies securing services or any benefits to veterans, their families, and\ndependents.\n(2) The commissioner of the Department of Veterans' Affairs shall prepare and submit\nto the Governor and each member of the board an annual report with reference to\nclaims presented on behalf of veterans and to otherwise report the activities and\naccomplishments of the department.\n(3) The Department of Veterans' Affairs shall be authorized to apply for and accept\ngifts, grants, and other contributions from the federal government, or from any other\ngovernmental unit which funds shall be administered by the department through use\nof trust and agency accounts.\n(4) Veterans, as used in KRS 40.305 to 40.310 include any individual who served on\nactive duty during peace or war in the Armed Forces of the United States, and who\nhas received an honorable discharge from such service.\n(5) The Department of Veterans' Affairs shall maintain full, adequate, and complete\ncopies of all records pertaining to claims of veterans who file said c laims for\nbenefits through the department.\n(6) The commissioner of the Department of Veterans' Affairs may purchase liability\ninsurance for the protection of employees of the Department of Veterans' Affairs to\nprotect them from liability for acts, omission s, and claims arising in the course and\nscope of their employment or service to the department.\n(7) The Department of Veterans' Affairs shall manage the veterans' program trust fund\nestablished by KRS 40.460 by hosting all board meetings, providing logisti cal\nsupport, recording the minutes of each meeting, and authorizing expenditures once\nthe board has approved a request for funds.","path":["KRS Chapter 40"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=42399","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:00Z","sha256":"b6cf863eb99efa205161033c0e826de98faa724a3ce55ee7b06ed107eae0bb81","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-40.305","next":"us-ky/krs-40.312"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
