{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-40.353","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 40.353","heading":"Kentucky Medal for Freedom -- Eligibility -- Administrative regulations --","body":"Funds to defray costs.\n(1) The Kentucky Medal for Freedom is hereby created to be awarded by the Kentucky\nDepartment of Veterans' Affairs to an individual who has been killed in action on or\nafter January 1, 1991, while:\n(a) Engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States;\n(b) Engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign\nforce;\n(c) Serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed  conflict against an\nopposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party; or\n(d) Serving in a combat zone as designated by presidential order.\n(2) Individuals eligible to receive the Kentucky Medal for Freedom include:\n(a) Members of the Kentucky National Guard or a Reserve Component stationed\nin Kentucky;\n(b) Members of a state National Guard or a Reserve Component who named\nKentucky as a home of record;\n(c) Members of the regular United States Armed Forces who named Kentucky as\na home of record; and\n(d) Members of the regular United States Armed Forces, a state National Guard,\nor a Reserve component who were buried in Kentucky on or after July 15,\n2008, and have a surviving spouse, parent, or next available family member\nwho is a Kentucky resident.\n(3) The department shall enter the name of a recipient of the Kentucky Medal for\nFreedom on the Kentucky Medal for Freedom roll.\n(4) The department shall promulgate administrative regulations in accordance with\nKRS Chapter 13A to carry out the provisions of this section.\n(5) The department may receive funds from the veterans' program trust fund to defray\nthe cost of the Kentucky Medal for Freedom.","path":["KRS Chapter 40"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=42400","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:00Z","sha256":"accd13dc52e9df435be153b7fd6394fff22d0814c7f40c4cbf66ac21a4af30a4","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-40.350","next":"us-ky/krs-40.355"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
