{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-40.355","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 40.355","heading":"Indigent Veterans' Burial Program -- Funding -- Administration.","body":"(1) There is hereby established an Indigent Veterans' Burial Program and there is\nhereby created in the State Treasury a fund entitled the indigent veterans' burial trust\nfund to provide funds to defray the costs of funeral expenses for indigent veterans in\nthe Commonwealth of Kentucky. The fund may receive state appropriations, gifts,\ngrants, federal funds, and any other funds both public and private. Moneys\ndeposited in the fund shall be disbursed by the State Treasurer upon the warrant of\nthe commissioner of  the Department of Veterans' Affairs or his or her\nrepresentative. Any unallocated or unencumbered balances in the fund shall be\ninvested as provided in KRS 42.500(9), and any income earned from the\ninvestments along with the unallotted or unencumbered bal ances in the fund shall\nnot lapse and shall be deemed a trust and agency account and made available solely\nfor the purposes and benefits of the Indigent Veterans' Burial Program.\n(2) The fund shall be used to defray the costs of funeral expenses for indige nt veterans\nby allocating the funds to pay for the burial or cremation and burial honors of an\nindigent veteran of the Commonwealth of Kentucky or by allocating the funds to\nreimburse a veterans' service organization that paid for the cost of the burial or\ncremation and burial honors of an indigent veteran of the Commonwealth of\nKentucky.\n(3) The Department of Veterans' Affairs shall oversee the Indigent Veterans' Burial\nProgram and trust fund.","path":["KRS Chapter 40"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=21856","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:00Z","sha256":"0897d36863d0d85c73a6ea382837717c017be72661dee07f829fab9ff84741e9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-40.353","next":"us-ky/krs-40.357"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
