{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-40.360","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 40.360","heading":"Veterans' Service Organization Burial Honor Guard Program.","body":"(1) The Commonwealth of Kentucky recognizes the vast majority of honorable burials\nfor Kentuckians who have served their state and nation in the Armed Forces are\nconducted by the veterans' service organizations. The active military units in\nKentucky, the Kentu cky National Guard, and the military reserves are providing\nburial honors details as available manpower permits. Year 2000 data from the\nDepartment of Defense shows over 497,000 veterans died, but only 91,074 military\nfuneral honors were performed. Althoug h the veterans' service organizations\nprovide untold thousands of unofficial services, many Kentucky veterans are still\nbeing buried without honors, including firing details, color guard, and pallbearers.\n(2) To correct this situation, the Department of Ve terans' Affairs shall oversee a\nVeterans' Service Organization Burial Honor Guard Program.\n(3) The Department of Veterans' Affairs shall implement and administer the provisions\nof this section through the promulgation of administrative regulations.
