{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-40.990","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 40.990","heading":"Penalties.","body":"(1) Any person who charges or collects or attempts to charge or collect, either directly\nor indirectly, any fee or other compensation for assisting in any manner a person\nseeking to obtain payment of a veterans' bonus shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and\nupon conviction thereof, shall be guilty of a Class B misdemeanor; but this\nprovision is not intended to prohibit:\n(a) Collection by public officers of statutory fees for providing authenticated\ncopies of public records; or\n(b) Collection by notaries public of not exceeding fifty cents ($0.50) for\nadministering an oath and giving a certificate thereof; or\n(c) The giving of assistance or advice to claimants by any bona fide veterans'\norganization, civic organization, institution, public or private body, or person ,\nthrough one (1) or more persons compensated from the funds of such\norganization, institution, or public or private body or person, if no fee or\ncharge therefor is collected from the asserted claimant.\n(2) Whoever makes any false or fraudulent statement o f a material fact in any\napplication, affidavit, certificate, or document submitted or tendered for the purpose\nof obtaining payment of a veterans' bonus under this chapter shall be guilty of a\nClass D felony.\n(3) Any persons conspiring to obtain payment o f a fraudulent claim for a veterans'\nbonus, or conspiring to defraud one (1) who receives payment or has a bona fide\nclaim for payment of a veterans' bonus, shall be guilty of a Class D felony.","path":["KRS Chapter 40"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=21881","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:00Z","sha256":"bbf0bfd90d6137053c0933ec7e6564ee5169600a452fadafe6545809ffb26897","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-40.650","next":"us-ky/krs-40.991"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
