{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-401.040","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 401.040","heading":"Certification of order for name change -- Fee -- Index kept by county","body":"clerk.\n(1) (a) If the District Court, Family Court, or Circuit Court, as authorized by KRS\n401.020, orders any person's name to be changed under this chapter, a copy of\nthe order shall be certified by the clerk of that court to the county clerk, for\nrecord, unless the court has ordered the record sealed or otherwise restricted\nfrom public inspection.\n(b) Beginning January 1, 2028, the clerk of the court shall collect the fee  required\nunder KRS 64.012 for the filing of a court -ordered name change under\nsubsection (2) of this section and forward the fee with the copy of the order to\nthe county clerk, except as provided in paragraph (a) of this subsection.\n(2) The county clerk s hall keep an alphabetical index for each book of records,\nreferring to the page on which each person's name change appears, and giving the\nname from and to which it is changed.","path":["KRS Chapter 401"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57721","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:28Z","sha256":"42181c8b862d3a5910faa0d77cb6e4fe68b5fb371d3261e4b32897fe875e1049","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-401.030","next":"us-ky/krs-402.005"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
