{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-402.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 402.020","heading":"Other prohibited marriages.","body":"(1) Marriage is prohibited and void:\n(a) With a person who has been adjudged mentally disabled by a court of\ncompetent jurisdiction;\n(b) Where there is a husband or wife living, from whom the person marrying has\nnot been divorced;\n(c) When not solemnized or contracted in the presence of an author ized person or\nsociety;\n(d) Between members of the same sex;\n(e) Between more than two (2) persons; and\n(f) Except as provided in KRS 402.210, with a person who at the time of\nmarriage is under eighteen (18) years of age.\n(2) Subsection (1)(f) of this sect ion shall not apply to a lawful marriage entered into in\nthe Commonwealth of Kentucky prior to July 14, 2018, or to a lawful marriage in\nanother state or country prior to the parties' residence in the Commonwealth of\nKentucky.","path":["KRS Chapter 402"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=47591","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:28Z","sha256":"93f788172c5a9649ac3455d51f0827dc158e1628d0724882cd103d8b75f8cf85","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-402.010","next":"us-ky/krs-402.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
