{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-403.840","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 403.840","heading":"Appearance of parties and child.","body":"(1) In a child custody proceeding in this state, the court may order a party to the\nproceeding who is in this state to appear before the court in person with or without\nthe child. The court may order any person who is in this state and who has physical\ncustody or control of the child to appear in person with the child.\n(2) If a party to a child custody proceeding whose presence is desired by the court is\noutside this state, the court may order that a notice given pursuant to KRS 403.812\ninclude a statement directing the party to appear in person with or without the child\nand informing the party that failure to appear may result in a decision adverse to the\nparty.\n(3) The court may enter any order necessary to ensure the safety of the child and of any\nperson ordered to appear under this section.\n(4) If a party to a child custody proceeding who is outside this state is directed to appear\nunder subsection (2) of this section or desires to appear personally before the court\nwith or without the child, the court may re quire another party to pay reasonable and\nnecessary travel and other expenses of the party so appearing and of the child.","path":["KRS Chapter 403"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=17514","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:31Z","sha256":"ae936bc13e692c79326b7f7c1be4b0dd4a3245a123bff7f75b7fb23fa11784ce","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-403.838","next":"us-ky/krs-403.842"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
