{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-407.5307","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 407.5307","heading":"Duties of support enforcement agency.","body":"(1) A support enforcement agency of this state, upon request, shall provide services to a\npetitioner in a proceeding under this chapter.\n(2) A support enforcement agency of this state that is providing services to the\npetitioner shall:\n(a) Take all steps necessary to enable an appropriate tribunal of this state, another\nstate, or a foreign country to obtain jurisdiction over the respondent;\n(b) Request an appropriate tribunal to set a date, time, and place for a hearing;\n(c) Make a reasonable effort to obtain a ll relevant information, including\ninformation as to income and property of the parties;\n(d) Within two (2) days, exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays, after\nreceipt of notice in a record from initiating, responding, or registering tribunal,\nsend a copy of the notice to the petitioner;\n(e) Within two (2) days, exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays, after\nreceipt of a communication in a record from the respondent or the\nrespondent's attorney, send a copy of the communication to the petitioner; and\n(f) Notify the petitioner if jurisdiction over the respondent cannot be obtained.\n(3) A support enforcement agency of this state that requests registration of a child\nsupport order in this state for enforcement or for modification shall make reasonable\nefforts:\n(a) To ensure that the order to be registered is the controlling order; or\n(b) If two (2) or more child support orders exist and the identity of the controlling\norder has not been determined, to ensure that a request for such a\ndetermination is made in a tribunal having jurisdiction to do so.\n(4) A support enforcement agency of this state that requests registration and\nenforcement of a support order, arrears, or judgment stated in a foreign currency\nshall convert the amounts stated in the foreign currency into the equivalent amounts\nin dollars under the applicable official or market exchange rate as publicly reported.\n(5) A support enforcement agency of this state shall issue or request a tribunal of this\nstate to issue a child suppo rt order and an income -withholding order that redirect\npayment of current support, arrears, and interest if requested to do so by a support\nenforcement agency of another state pursuant to KRS 407.5319.\n(6) KRS 407.5101 to 407.5902 does not create or negate  a relationship of attorney and\nclient or other fiduciary relationship between a support enforcement agency or the\nattorney for the agency and the individual being assisted by the agency.","path":["KRS Chapter 407"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=45101","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:34Z","sha256":"634fbabd7a82435199203eeb811d7dea6543f3d1d07519f073a6fdd020858f89","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-407.5306","next":"us-ky/krs-407.5308"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
