{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-411.137","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 411.137","heading":"Limitation on right to recover for wrongful death of child if parent has","body":"abandoned care and maintenance.\n(1) A parent who has willfully abandoned the care and maintenance of his or her child\nshall not have a right to maintain a wrongful death action for that child and shall not\nhave a right otherwise to recover for the wrongful death of that child, unless:\n(a) The abandoning parent had resumed the care and maintenance at least one (1)\nyear prior to the death of the child and had continued the care and\nmaintenance until the child's death; or\n(b) The parent had been deprived of the custody of his or her child under an order\nof a court of competent jurisdiction and the parent had substantially complied\nwith all orders of the court requiring contribution to the support of the child.\n(2) This section may be cited as Mandy Jo's Law.","path":["KRS Chapter 411"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=17772","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:35Z","sha256":"81f747d2e331a3aa25d985e2ee3e410a3c372383b6fcff9299743c6196d3ecf8","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-411.135","next":"us-ky/krs-411.140"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
