{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-42.650","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 42.650","heading":"Division of Geographic Information Systems -- Powers and duties --","body":"Authority for administrative regulations.\n(1) The Division of Geographic Information Systems is hereby established in the Office\nof Architecture and Governance within the Commonwealth Office of Technology in\nthe Finance and Administration Cabinet.\n(2) The Division of Geographic Information Systems shall be headed by a division\ndirector, whose appointment is subject to KRS 12.050. The division director may\nemploy personnel, pursuant to the provisions of KRS Chapter 18A, as required to\nperform the functions of the office.\n(3) The division may solicit, receive, and consider proposals for funding from any state\nagency, federal agency, local government, university, nonprofit o rganization, or\nprivate person or corporation. The division may also solicit and accept money by\ngrant, gift, donation, bequest, legislative appropriation, or other conveyance.\n(4) The division shall:\n(a) Establish the central statewide geographic informat ion clearinghouse to\nmaintain map inventories, information on current and planned geographic\ninformation systems applications, information on grants available for the\nacquisition or enhancement of geographic information resources, and a\ndirectory of geogra phic information resources available within the state or\nfrom the federal government;\n(b) Make all reasonable efforts to collect and present geographic information in a\nmanner which meets the needs of all state agencies;\n(c) Coordinate multiagency geograph ic information system projects, including\noverseeing the development and maintenance of statewide base maps and\ngeographic information systems;\n(d) Provide access to both consulting and technical assistance, and education and\ntraining, on the application a nd use of geographic information technologies to\nstate and local agencies;\n(e) Maintain, update, and interpret geographic information and geographic\ninformation systems standards, under the direction of the council;\n(f) Provide geographic information syste m services, as requested, to agencies\nwishing to augment their geographic information system capabilities;\n(g) In cooperation with other agencies, evaluate, participate in pilot studies, and\nmake recommendations on geographic information systems hardware a nd\nsoftware;\n(h) Assist the council with review of agency information resource plans and\nparticipate in special studies as requested by the council;\n(i) Provide staff support and technical assistance to the Geographic Information\nAdvisory Council; and\n(j) Prepare proposed legislation and funding proposals for the General Assembly\nwhich will further solidify coordination and expedite implementation of\ngeographic information systems.\n(5) The division may promulgate necessary administrative regulations for the\nfurtherance of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 42"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53176","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:03Z","sha256":"2e4e3b1563f74b0553e07e76a42b2e800e111c9552dbf245eb170a1d3ece3f7a","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-42.640","next":"us-ky/krs-42.655"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
