{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-42.736","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 42.736","heading":"Definitions for KRS 42.734, 42.736, and 42.738.","body":"As used in this section and KRS 42.734 and 42.738, unless the context requires\notherwise:\n(1) \"Architecture\" means the design principles, physical structure, and functional\norganization of a land mobile radio system;\n(2) \"Frequency\" means for a periodic fu nction, the number of cycles or events per unit\ntime that comprises the frequency spectrum used by or assigned to a wireless public\nsafety voice or data communications system;\n(3) \"Interoperability\" means:\n(a) The ability of public safety agencies to be ab le to communicate with one\nanother; to exchange voice or data with one another in real time;\n(b) The ability of systems, units, or forces to provide services to and accept\nservices from other systems, units, or forces and to use the services so\nexchanged to enable them to operate effectively together; and\n(c) The condition achieved among communications -electronics systems or items\nof communications-electronic equipment when information or services can be\nexchanged directly and satisfactorily between them and their users;\n(4) \"Primary wireless public safety voice or data communications systems\" means a\nregular interacting group of base, mobile, and associated control and fixed relay\nstations intended to provide land mobile radio voice or data communications service\nover a single area of operation for public safety agencies. This definition shall not\ninclude \"911\" telephone systems;\n(5) \"Public safety shared infrastructure\" means any component that by the nature of its\nfunction or physical characteristics can b e used by multiple agencies to implement\nor support primary wireless public safety voice or data communications systems.\nThis shall include but not be limited to towers, equipment shelters, radios, and other\nelectronic equipment, backbone communications ne tworks, and communications -\nrelated software;\n(6) \"Public safety working group\" means a working group whose mission is to design\nand develop a seamless coordinated plan for the use of the public safety frequency\nspectrum as regulated by the Federal Communications Commission;\n(7) \"Spectrum\" means a usable radio frequency in the electromagnetic distribution; and\n(8) \"Standards\" means:\n(a) Engineering and technical requirements that are necessary to be employed in\nthe design of systems, units, or forces and to use the services so exchanged to\nenable them to operate effectively together, including but not limited to\noperating frequencies, over-the-air protocols, and bandwidth; and\n(b) Established protocol that provides a common interface.","path":["KRS Chapter 42"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=22097","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:03Z","sha256":"4c220e2aef543a1aabaf389658a4d16565c874a28018ba0b0e093fb8e9423dac","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-42.734","next":"us-ky/krs-42.738"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
