{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-421.520","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 421.520","heading":"Victim impact statement.","body":"(1) The attorney for the Commonwealth shall notify the victim that, upon conviction of\nthe defendant, the victim has the right to submit a written victim impact statement\nto the probation officer responsible for preparing the presentence investigation\nreport for inclusion in the report or to the court should such a report be waived by\nthe defendant.\n(2) The impact statement may contain, but need not be limited to, a description of the\nnature and extent of any physical, psychological, or financial harm suffered by the\nvictim, the victim's need for restitution and whether the victim has applied for or\nreceived compensation for financial loss, and the victim's recommendation for an\nappropriate sentence.\n(3) The victim impact statement shall be considered by the cou rt prior to any decision\non the sentencing or release, including shock probation, of the defendant.","path":["KRS Chapter 421"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50505","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:39Z","sha256":"125da26547564522b18e22058d932150efade78b423e35fdd1b83ceef059fb54","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-421.510","next":"us-ky/krs-421.530"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
