{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-423.110","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 423.110","heading":"Recognition of notarial acts performed outside this state.","body":"For the purposes of KRS 423.110 to 423.190, \"notarial acts\" means acts which the laws\nand regulations of this state authorize notaries public of this state to perform, including\nthe administering of oaths and affirmations, taking proof of execution and\nacknowledgments of instruments, and attesting documents. Notarial acts may be\nperformed outside this state for use in this state with the same effect as if performed by a\nnotary public of this state by the following persons authorized pursuant to the laws and\nregulations of other governments in addition to any other person authorized by the laws\nand regulations of this state:\n(1) A notary public authorized to perform notarial acts in the place in which the act is\nperformed;\n(2) A judge, clerk, or deputy clerk of any court of record in the place in which the\nnotarial act is performed;\n(3) An officer of the foreign service of the United States, a consular agent, or any other\nperson authorized by regulation of the United States Department of State to perform\nnotarial acts in the place in which the act is performed;\n(4) A commissioned officer in active service with the Armed Forces of the United\nStates and any other person authorized by regulation of the Armed Forces to\nperform notarial acts if the notarial act is p erformed for one (1) of the following or\nhis dependents: a merchant seaman of the United States, a member of the Armed\nForces of the United States, or any other person serving with or accompanying the\nArmed Forces of the United States;\n(5) Any other person authorized to perform notarial acts in the place in which the act is\nperformed; or\n(6) A person, either a resident or a nonresident of Kentucky, who is appointed by the\nGovernor of Kentucky to perform notarial acts in or outside this state covering\nwritings prepared for recordation in this state.","path":["KRS Chapter 423"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=18232","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:40Z","sha256":"5f8c3a0a58ce5e86d8547cd6f4f21742262b80cb8aad6436a9dd018a83d31346","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-423.080","next":"us-ky/krs-423.120"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
