{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-431.540","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 431.540","heading":"Uniform schedule of amounts of bail in designated nonviolent Class D","body":"felonies, misdemeanors, and violations.\nThe Supreme Court may by rule or order prescribe a uniform schedule of amounts of bail\nin designated nonviolent Class D felonies, misdemeanors, and violations;\n(1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, when the amount of bail is\nfixed by such rule or order of the Supreme Court for a particular offense, the clerk\nof the court or other public officers so authorized by the court's o rder shall accept\ncash bail in the prescribed amount or the deposit authorized by KRS 431.530 and\nrelease the defendant to appear in accordance with the conditions of the bail bond.\nA receipt shall be delivered to the defendant for the bail so taken and wi thin a\nreasonable time such bail shall be deposited with the clerk of the court having\njurisdiction of the offense.\n(2) A court may, in the exercise of its reasonable discretion, refuse to set bail in the\namount prescribed by such rule or order of the Supr eme Court, but, in so doing, the\ncourt must set forth in writing its reasons for such refusal.","path":["KRS Chapter 431"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=18639","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:46Z","sha256":"cca28eb7651ab618c65d6e3913513a19b32d3122fc4ebba61338b94fb56f18b2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-431.535","next":"us-ky/krs-431.545"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
