{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-431.597","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 431.597","heading":"Agreement of affiliation between county and crime stoppers organization -","body":"- Funding.\n(1) Any crime stoppers organization that enters into a written agreement of affiliation,\nas provided in subsection (2) of this section, with a county in which the\norganization operates shall be funded in part by a one dollar ($1) fee added to court\ncosts in that county. The fee shall be imposed on every person who is:\n(a) Convicted of any misdemeanor or violation, other than a violation of KRS\nChapters 186, 187, 188, 189, or 189A; and\n(b) Sentenced to pay a fine for the misdemeanor or violation, regardless of\nwhether the person is also incarcerated, or whether the fine is suspended,\nwaived, or otherwise not imposed.\n(2) Any crime stoppers organization may enter into a wr itten agreement of affiliation,\napproved by a fiscal court or urban -county council, with any county, or with any\nnumber of counties, in which the organization operates. Agreements of affiliation\nshall be valid for two (2) years and may be renewed. The agreements shall specify:\n(a) The relationship between the crime stoppers organization, the county, and law\nenforcement agencies in the county; and\n(b) That the crime stoppers organization shall account annually to the fiscal court\nor urban -county council for all funds raised by the organization from all\nsources and all funds expended by the organization for any purpose. The\nagreement shall allow the crime stoppers organization to identify the sources\nof funds raised generically rather than by name. The agreeme nt shall not\nrequire the crime stoppers organization to divulge the amounts of individual\nrewards paid nor the identity of any person to whom a reward was paid.\n(3) In every county where an agreement of affiliation is approved, the county clerk shall\nnotify the circuit clerk to collect the fee required by this section. The circuit clerk\nshall collect the fee for two (2) years from the date the agreement was signed. When\nthe circuit clerk pays fines and costs over to the state, the circuit clerk shall pay al l\nmoney collected under this section to the crime stoppers organization named in the\nagreement.\n(4) The crime stoppers fee shall not be waived or suspended.  Failure to pay the fee\nshall be treated as a failure to pay a fine under KRS Chapter 534.\n(5) Crime stoppers organizations may use the funds they receive under this section for\nany purpose authorized by KRS 431.575.","path":["KRS Chapter 431"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=18648","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:46Z","sha256":"030fbf86a08f5da639b4c396d3ade066987c2811afb23b5da0625439be582549","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-431.595","next":"us-ky/krs-431.600"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
