{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-436.160","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 436.160","heading":"Working on Sunday -- Work of necessity or charity, athletic games and","body":"certain businesses and employers excluded -- Penalty.\n(1) Any person who works on Sunday at his own or at any other occupation or employs\nany other person, in labor or other business, whether for profit or amusement, unless\nhis work or the employment of others is in the course of ordinary household duties,\nwork of necessity or charity or work required in the maintenance or operation of a\npublic service or public utility plant or syst em, shall be fined not less than two\ndollars ($2) nor more than fifty dollars ($50). The employment of every person\nemployed in violation of this subsection shall be deemed a separate offense.\n(2) Persons who are members of a religious society which observ es as a Sabbath any\nother day in the week than Sunday shall not be liable to the penalty prescribed in\nsubsection (1) of this section, if they observe as a Sabbath one (1) day in each seven\n(7).\n(3) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to amateur  sports, athletic games, or\noperation of grocery stores whose principal business is the sale of groceries and\nrelated food items, drug stores whose principal business is the sale of drugs and\nrelated drug items, gift shops, souvenir shops, fishing tackle s hops and bait shops,\nmoving picture shows, chautauquas, filling stations, or opera.\n(4) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to employers using continuous work\nscheduling provided that such scheduling permits at least one (1) day of rest each\ncalendar week for each employee.","path":["KRS Chapter 436"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=18985","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:50Z","sha256":"0f8c9c2a83ada55ac3ba645710f4c308707f55c75c3510ddec79b7995f25d7aa","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-436.155","next":"us-ky/krs-436.165"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
