{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-44.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 44.020","heading":"Claims allowed by courts -- Contest.","body":"(1) Within three (3) working days after the first and fifteenth of each month, the sheriff,\nor any other public official with a claim payable from the State Treasury for duties\nperformed in any court of the Court of Justice, shall make out the claim and have i t\ncertified by the judge of the court as allowable for payment, and transmit the list to\nthe Department for Local Government. The claim approved by the judge of the\ncourt shall serve as an order of allowance notwithstanding any statutory provision to\nthe contrary. The Department for Local Government shall keep a separate record of\nall claims allowed in each county, noting the number and amount of each warrant\nissued for the payment of the claims.\n(2) The order of any court authorized by law to approve and allow fee bills, settlements,\ncredits, charges, and other claims against the State Treasury shall not be treated as a\njudgment, or made conclusive against the state, but shall only be regarded as prima\nfacie evidence of the correctness and legality of the f ee bill, settlement, credit,\ncharge, or claim. The Department for Local Government, if it believes the fee bill,\nsettlement, credit, charge, or claim to be fraudulent, erroneous, or illegal, may, upon\nthe advice of the Attorney General, refuse to pay and m ay contest the claim in the\nFranklin Circuit Court, which shall have exclusive jurisdiction of all actions against\nthe Department for Local Government to compel the payment of claims against the\nState Treasury.","path":["KRS Chapter 44"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=22126","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:03Z","sha256":"fae285cab0b64b3b8e9ed2f426dd60497902a83555fbca915867fa4758f3f40e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-44.010","next":"us-ky/krs-44.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
