{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-44.055","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 44.055","heading":"Insuring state vehicles -- Blanket liability policy -- Effect on sovereign","body":"immunity  -- Eligibility of insurers.\n(1) Any state agency, as defined in KRS  Chapter 12, may in its discretion, for the\nprotection of the public and its employees, expend state funds to purchase\npolicies of insurance of all kinds deemed  advisable covering vehicles, including\nboats, owned  by the state and operated by state employees when  in the\nconduct  of official business. The  executive director of insurance, upon\nrecommendation  of the secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet,\nshall initiate and be responsible for the purchase of a blanket liability insurance\npolicy to cover the officers and employees of the several state agencies and\nshall determine, by administrative regulation, the policy limits that shall be\napplicable to the persons covered in each such affected agency not to exceed\nthe limit prescribed in KRS 49.040.\n(2) Nothing contained in this section shall be construed to be a waiver of sovereign\nimmunity  and  claims against the Commonwealth,  its agencies, officers,\nemployees, or insurers may be asserted only in the manner set forth in KRS\n49.040 to 49.180.\n(3) Policies authorized by this section shall be purchased only from insurers\nauthorized to do business in this state and shall be countersigned by a licensed\nresident agent.","path":["KRS Chapter 44"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46229","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:03Z","sha256":"7aadde4919dd7f116fcefb8f408d3d322c222657138071cb12fbfaffa5e33015","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-44.050","next":"us-ky/krs-44.060"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
